Tech Abuse: A River Runs Through It

Let’s be honest who hasn’t at some point broken one of their mobile devices? For sure Tom Brady can’t say he hasn’t. I myself can admit, that I once waded too deep in the Provo River on a flyfishing trip to Utah. My phone wasn’t as protected as maybe it should have been. When the rice trick didn’t work (I now know silica gel packs work better, but that’s another story) I pondered my next stepsI had heard stories of iPhones surviving such escapades, but mine did not. I made my way to the AT&T store in Provo where I told them my phone stopped working. After a quick backroom inspection, the employee came back and asked me if my phone had somehow gotten submerged in water? The jig was up, no replacement for me. I was still paying for my waterlogged phone. Buying a new device wasn’t financially in the cards. What’s a guy to do? The reality is going without a phone isn’t an option. Since I’m pretty much married to the Apple ecosystem, I needed to drop some coin. The financial savings came from the secondary market. At the time I could get by with a gently USED iPhone 8 that had never gone for a swim in the Provo River. Did I mention my original wedding ring was also claimed by the Provo River? Again, a story for another time.
